What Canadian snow removal websites leave out
87%of the snow removal websites we read don't say how fast they'll reply
The short version
We read the websites of 1,247 snow removal companies across Canada this October, in English and French. Most make it easy to ask for a quote. Far fewer answer what a buyer wants to know first.
- 87%don't say how fast they'll reply
- 74%show no price, not even a range
- 51%never mention insurance
- 41%show no customer reviews on their own site
Only 1 in 25 sites answers all four. The good news: about 5 in 6 already have a quote form. People can reach these companies. They just aren't given a reason to pick one.
The four questions
What a buyer looks for, and what most sites leave out
Here is a made-up snow company built from what we found most often. Scroll, and the gaps light up one by one.
Cleared before you're up

3 in 4 show no price at all
We found no price on 928 sites. Not a starting price, not a seasonal rate, not a range. Commercial work really does depend on the lot, and nobody expects a fixed number for a plaza. A range still helps people decide whether to call. So does one line on what moves the price up or down.

Half never mention insurance
Certificate of insurance
- Insured
- Liability coverage
- WSIB, WCB or CNESST
636 sites say nothing about being insured. We looked for liability insurance, “fully insured”, bonding, and workers' compensation coverage like WSIB, WCB, WorkSafeBC or CNESST. For a homeowner, that leaves a question. For a property manager it can end the conversation, because many ask for proof of insurance before they sign anything.

4 in 10 show no reviews on their own site
On 510 sites we found no customer reviews at all: no quotes, no reviews widget, no testimonials page. Some of these companies may well have strong Google reviews. Someone reading their website just never sees them.

Of the 863 sites that show a copyright year, 188 show 2024 or earlier, and 65 show a year before 2020. It's a small thing, and it takes two minutes to fix. To a visitor, though, an old year can look like nobody is minding the site.

For owners
What to fix before the first storm
None of this needs a new website. Most of it is an afternoon.
- 01
Say when you'll answer
Put one line next to your form and phone number: “We reply within one business day.” Then keep the promise.
- 02
Say you're insured
Name your liability coverage and your WSIB, WCB, WorkSafeBC or CNESST account. Offer the certificate to anyone who asks.
- 03
Give a price or a range
A seasonal price for driveways, or a range for commercial lots with what moves it up or down.
- 04
Put real reviews on the page
Copy three good ones onto your site, with a first name and a town. A link to Google isn't the same.
- 05
Show your own work
44% of sites have no page like this. A page of your trucks on real lots, after real storms. Phone photos are fine.
- 06
Update the footer year
Then check the phone number, the service area and this season's dates while you're in there.
How does your own site do?
Type in your website. In about a minute you'll see which of the four it answers, and how it compares with the 1,247 sites we read.
Our snow removal work
We build websites for snow removal companies
If you'd rather hand this off, here are three snow removal sites we designed, for residential plowing and for commercial snow and ice work.
Compare all three on our snow removal pageHow we did it
The companies
In October 2026 we built a list of 1,546 snow removal companies across Canada, town by town, from web and map searches. It leans toward established firms with crews, trucks or commercial work. One-truck operators are mostly not on it. 1,367 of them had a website we could read.
Two readers
On October 17, our own page reader went through each site: the homepage and up to 15 more pages. It's built to skip anything it isn't sure of, and it only knew English phrases. So on October 28 we read every site again with a second reader, in English and French: the homepage plus up to 3 more pages (contact, about, reviews or snow pages). We count something as there if either reader found it.
What we counted
1,247 sites, the ones both readers could open and read. 195 of them are in French. We left out 27 sites whose homepage shows almost no text, and 93 that blocked us, were down or had moved by October 28. By province: Ontario 600, Quebec 192, Alberta 181, British Columbia 93, Manitoba 52, Saskatchewan 51, Atlantic provinces 70, territories 7 and unknown 1.
The second check
Readers miss things. So we picked 50 sites at random and checked each one again, slowly: page by page, saving the page and the exact words behind every answer. An AI agent did this from a written brief, without seeing what the readers had said. 45 sites could be read. 42 of them are among the 1,247 we counted, and those are the ones we compare.
Limits
We read the words on the page. Words inside images or PDFs, and some widgets that load late, can be missed. The check also showed our readers sometimes counted things that don't really count, like advice to “make sure your contractor is insured”. So if anything, the real share of sites missing these things is a little higher than we report. Websites change all the time, and these numbers describe late October 2026. We studied bigger and mid-size firms. The smallest operators may look different.
The rule
We only publish a number if, on the checked sites where our readers found nothing, the second check also found nothing at least 9 times out of 10.
| What we counted | Readers found nothing | Check agreed |
|---|---|---|
| Reply time | 33 | 31 (94%) |
| Insurance | 21 | 21 (100%) |
| Price | 29 | 29 (100%) |
| Reviews | 18 | 18 (100%) |
| Gallery or project page | 15 | 14 (93%) |
| Copyright year 2024 or older | 9 | 9 (100%) |
| One or none of the four | 18 | 18 (100%) |
Two things didn't pass, so they're not here: whether a site has a quote form at all (6 of 7) and whether the form asks for the property address (7 of 11). When our readers did find a form, the check agreed 26 times out of 28, which is why we say about 5 in 6 sites have one. Copyright years matched on all 42 checked sites.
